I finished a 3 week Challenge last week at Urban Jungle, and yes, it WAS a challenge! I feel 1000% better and will be working on another Challenge soon. I currently ended the 3 weeks of Boot Camp at Urban Jungle & I just wanted to throw a positive review their way & thank Joshua for everything!. I did 3 weeks from May 28 through April 15 of 11. . Where to start? First of all, I can't say enough good things about the instructors at Joshua Votaw at Urban Jungle the Chief Instructor. He goes above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and to help you with anything you need from nutritional tips, encouragement and "off day" workout recommendations. The people that attend the sessions are typically a diverse group in age, race, size, shape and athletic ability which lend itself to a unique atmosphere each day. Whether your goal is to lose weight, build stamina, get in better shape, break old habits or just eat better & get on a more strict schedule, you will have the opportunity to do so. I have managed to loose 10 pounds over the course of the 3 weeks. It's a perfect program for those that work the old 9-5 because you can get up early or go after work. Get in a challenging workout & eat a decent breakfast all before 7:30 AM or after work like I did at 7:30pm and have the best sleep ever . The sessions lasted for 3 weeks - 9 total days at their location in Woodside with self-monitored workouts on your off days. I would say that after 2 weeks of the program you will start to notice real changes if you follow the program & diet of course I had lost 8 pounds after my 2nd week! After 3 weeks you will be smiling after your fitness test my results were outstanding. I basically was able to double my results in JUST 3 WEEKS! You will want to come back for more and trust me I will be returning in a few weeks!...... I will tell you that if you stick to the plan you will achieve your goals – So what are you waiting for call up and get started! - Jelissa

Urban Jungle workouts and training with Josh this last year has been an incredible life changing experience! Josh is an amazing trainer and a great down to earth guy that always makes you feel welcome, while pushing you to go beyond your limitations in a safe and positive way. Josh is awesome and the 3-week boot camp produced results! I am a very sedentary person and I never thought I would stick to three weeks of 3 bootcamp classes. I'm surprised I made it to every class. The reason is that Josh provided the right kind of support. I didn't join the army, so I don't want a drill sergeant type yelling in my face. Josh struck the right balance with being encouraging while at the same time challenging you.The space is clean and open, you have room to move around and the class size is limited, so you get some 1:1 input. I signed up for another 3-weeks, even though I have a gym membership. Because I pushed myself harder at bootcamp than I do at the gym. Give Urban Jungle a try! It's well worth your time and money. - Diana

A very intense, very good fitness experience. You have to dedicate time to do it, as the trainer sets up his sessions as consecutive weeks, but that's exactly what we're all supposed to be doing anyway. Taking the class just takes the onus off you doing it alone. I think the trainer- Josh- is really gifted and motivating, and I'm hard pressed to find strength training enjoyable, but he made it bearable and fun. He's encouraging, in just the right way, not too aggressive, not too peppy- and I do see a huge difference in my traveling around the city, I'm no longer out of breath at the top of subway stairs, I can walk for hours and not feel a thing, my runs get easier and easier. I can do things I wasn't able to before and am looking forward to another session. I heartily recommend the Urban Jungle experience.  - Tzip

This program is amazing. After 6 weeks, I have already seen great results in every aspect of my fitness. Josh is a fantastic trainer--encouraging, motivating and knowledgable. The workouts change every day so you never get bored or plateau. Not only have I had great gains within the Challenge, but my own workouts at my gym have improved as I now know new, better, more efficient ways to exercise. Josh also gives great advice on nutrition and general training. If you really want to push yourself to the next level (wherever you are now) this is a must-do. Worth every penny. Do it!  - Paul

I came here to learn Muay Thai boxing. I attended the gym for 3 months, only because I moved out of state, if not I would still continue attending. In those three months I learned a lot and I had a lot fun. The trainer, Josh, is really patient and has extensive knowledge in the art and in fitness. He makes this class really interesting and fun, and every day I looked forward to the following class. The group of people that take thai boxing are really nice, friendly and welcoming. Every night was a great night, I can not stress how much I enjoyed taking thai boxing at this gym...So back to the trainer, Josh... Like I mentioned before, this guy has a lot of knowledge in the art, fitness and nutrition. He is very cool and will answer any of your questions that you may have regarding fighting offense, defense, working out and nutrition, AND wont mind at all. Josh will find any weaknesses that you may have, and help you improve. You will definitely see the results that you are looking for when you join urban jungle, with out a doubt! - Felix

As a Realtor, my schedule is constantly changing, and when I'm not out on the field, I'm sitting down in my office or in my car for hours at time. As a result over the last 11 years I managed to pack on 45 extra pounds.

I was really struggling with motivation to workout before I met Josh and joined Urban Jungle. I honestly looked at exercise as something that wasn't necessary. I was too focused on my career and chose work over workouts. I ran out of excuses when I came across the Urban Jungle 6am burn challenges.

Josh has gotten me right on track to becoming a better version of myself. The Urban Jungle Burn Challenges are extremely rewarding both physically and mentally. I've dropped 31 pounds in a little over 3 months… and because of this just a few days ago my own godfather jokingly said he could finally get his arms around me to give me a hug. Right then and there I knew I'd made the right choice in trainers.

One of Josh's strengths as a trainer is his attention to technique. His valuable suggestions and corrections of my form while working out have capitalized on the benefits of each one of my workouts, while at the same time ensuring safety in each exercise.

He's given me a lot of really good nutrition tips and I've learned how to eat better as a result of that. I've stopped eating foods that are no good, and focused more on healthy balanced meals.

I would highly recommend Josh as a trainer to anyone. He is resourceful, knowledgeable and encouraging. Regardless of your fitness level or goals, he has the expertise, personality and energy to help you transcend into a better version of yourself.

I got a Groupon for the 6 week bootcamp challenge and am now halfway through it--and will be signing on for more. Josh is GREAT and this class really keeps me motivated. We meet 3 times a week, yet there is very little repetition--no chance for boredom (weekly classes at the gym, on the other hand, get boring really fast...). He really mixes it up each session, so we never know what we're going to get. My butt gets kicked hard, but I actually have fun every time and look forward to class. I can tell I'm getting stronger, but the exercises remain challenging, which is perfect. The class size is small and Josh is a great motivator--not bark-y or mean like some bootcamp instructors--and he really pays attention to everyone. - Sarah K.

This was my first bootcamp experience and I didn't know what to expect.
Well...I thought I knew what to expect which was to cry, maybe throw up a little, and get yelled at by some thick necked ex-marine.

Instead I ended up having more fun than I do at my normal gym and I woke up each morning of class excited to go.

I did the 3 week Burn Express which was offered as a groupon for a pretty great deal. It was run by the owner and instructor Josh and he made the experience really unique. He is amiable and has a personality that makes him easy to have a conversation with everyone in the class. He remembered my name immediately from the first day along with the other first timers there and that made each workout feel like personal training.

Now do NOT get me wrong..he is insane. The workouts that we do were the "easy" version and the people who had already completed other "challenges" were doing some shit I can only hope to do some day. Every single workout in the 9 session session was completely different so you're body doesn't know what to expect. It's always a full body workout with upper body and lower body alternating throughout the 1 hour session.

The music also varies throughout each session which I appreciated. It ranged from a kind of dance music to reggaeton to reggae to hip hop and it wasn't loud but it was motivating.

Just from the 3 weeks I can see a difference in how much stronger my upper body is and my general ability to make it through a grueling class. (I actually did a Crunch class on a non Urban Jungle day and I was a little disappointed that he didn't push me hard enough).

There is parking in the area so I wouldn't let your location deter you from checking this place out. The class sizes stay smaller so you get more individual attention and his motivation tactics are so nice and genuine that I never once thought "I hate this guy..I hate this class".

Regardless of your fitness level, he will find modification for every exercise so you'll never feel like you should be doing something that could cause you injury.

I would highly recommend doing one of the burn challenges if you want to get motivated to improve your fitness or get back on track. - Samantha S.

I highly recommend Urban Jungle for anyone that is searching for a challenging, effective and fun workout! You can be completely out of shape or an elite athlete and you'll come out of there sore, but feeling great. I'm a person who works out regularly and has tried just about every workout - pilates, yoga, hot yoga, running, swimming, basketball, boxing - and they all offer different benefits separately. Urban Jungle's workouts combine aspects of all of these sports in one, complete routine. The hour goes by fast and Josh is a great motivated. Half way through, you may feel like killing him - he pushes you further than you may feel like going or even think you can go - but you see results. I was in the best shape during my time working out at this gym and plan to go back soon. - Alex M. 

I am the type of person who refuses to jog to catch the bus.  However, I will power walk to get to McDonalds before the breakfast menu shuts down for the day. 

And yet I have just completed my first Burn Challenge Boot Camp with Josh at Urban Jungle.  It was an amazing experience. I found myself pushing my body further than I have ever done in the past. Most of this is due to the trainer, Josh, and his ability to encourage and motivate without the screaming and yelling that takes place in other boot camp style workouts.  He makes you feel like a part of a group despite your fitness level or experience.

After three weeks I can honestly say that I can see the changes in my body and am thrilled with the results.  I have signed on for my second boot camp, and can't wait to get started again. - Dalia T.  

This place is fantastic! If you are looking for results, this is the way to go.  You get personalized attention, a well-equipped facility, at a price that cannot be beat.  

I attended the UJ Burn Challenge with fitness and Atienza Kali expert, Guru Joshua Votaw.  He accommodated the varied fitness level of our group members by customizing our individual workout plans.  By the end of my six-week session, my cardio improved considerably and I gained five pounds of muscle. - Cedric
